Ward Nurse Job (7 months Fixed Term Contract) – Manchester

Competitive Salary

Working evenings and weekends? Yes, but it's still the most rewarding job in the industry

We have an opening in our state of the art Manchester hospital for an experienced Veterinary Nurse to join us as a Ward Nurse.

This position would suit a dedicated and caring nurse that loves spending time with patients in wards and building up strong relationships with owners of long term patients.

Working as a ward nurse you are responsible for looking after the in-patients in a holistic and attentive way and this will regularly involve the use and maintenance of feeding tubes, indwelling urinary catheters, oxygen therapy and chest drains as well as making up and monitoring CRIs and blood product transfusions. We provide a high standard of care to our in-patients and our nurses have a vital role in the hospital and their contribution to patient care is encouraged and valued.

In this position, you will work mostly day shifts which are either 07:00-16:00 or 08:00 to 17:00 or 10:30 to 19:30. There is also a requirement to participate in a weekend rota which is 1:3. The weekend days are given back in lieu as a four-day week the week before and after the weekend. All nurses work their share of Bank Holidays.

At weekends the roles are less defined and all nurses are involved in in-patient care, triaging and treating any incoming emergencies and monitoring anaesthetic and preparing theatres for any surgical cases. It is very much a team effort and everyone always pulls together.

You won’t experience this caseload anywhere else in the North West

The hospital opened in December 2016 and is purpose-designed with dedicated ICU, dog ward, cat ward, barrier nursing ward and self-contained isolation ward as well as separate out door runs for infectious and non-infectious patients. We accept referrals in soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery as well as internal medicine and some cardiology cases. We are an ECC hospital accepting emergency and critical referrals as well as covering an ever-increasing number of local practices OOH provision. This means we have a varied caseload but often with a critical or referral focus. We have just received Outstanding in the RCVS Practice Standards Awards for both ECC provision and In-patient Care.

As a company and hospital, we aim to deliver the highest level of evidence-based care and are always looking to improve on and develop our current protocols, as such all nurses are actively involved in progressing our services.

We have a growing number of nurses and ACAs on the team who are passionate and friendly. You will be working alongside discipline specialists and will be given every opportunity to develop and enhance your nursing skills in a well-designed hospital that is very well equipped. It is likely over time that our referral disciplines will expand further. There will also be opportunities for progression to a senior role

You must be fully qualified and registered or eligible for RCVS registration to apply for this role.
