Rotating Small Animal Internships

Glasgow and Manchester

Veterinary Surgeon

We are delighted to now be inviting applications for our Rotating Internship Programme in July 2018.  We are recruiting for 10 interns in total, 6 in our Glasgow Hospital and 4 in our Manchester Hospital.

The Vets Now small animal internships are designed for qualified veterinary surgeons, particularly new or recent graduates; the programme serves as an excellent foundation for those wishing to pursue specific discipline specialist training in the future, or those keen to experience front line work in emergency medicine.

We also offer an opportunity to remain employed with us once the intern programme has been completed by taking up a role in one of our 56 out-of-hours clinics across the UK for a period of 6-12 months for interested candidates.

Interns have the opportunity to work under the close supervision of outstanding veterinary specialists across our network, in the following services:

  • Emergency and Critical Care

  • Soft Tissue Surgery

  • Orthopaedic Surgery

  • Internal Medicine

  • Diagnostic Imaging (Glasgow only)

  • Oncology (Glasgow only)

Interns rotate on 4 or 6 weekly blocks through each service, with time available to perform externships. Interns play an integral role in the busy out-of-hours emergency service across our sites, where they have primary care responsibility.

Interns will experience a diverse caseload and have both direct and indirect case management including opportunities for emergency and general practice surgery. Teaching is an essential component of the internship, with weekly didactic seminars and lectures, which will augment the clinical experience.  There is also the opportunity for extensive in-house CPD.

At the time of starting the Internship, applicants must possess a Veterinary Degree which is recognised by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, be a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and be licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the UK.  Applicants must also be eligible to work in the UK and have the appropriate Visa documents. It would also be desirable that applicants provide evidence of competency in speaking English, as determined by a formal qualification in English (such as IELTS or TOEFL)
